Sid the Science Kid Backyard Campout & GIVEAWAY!

I'm not much of the outdoorsy type. I like my clean bathrooms, warm beds, and readily prepared meals. Therefore, when it comes to camping and hiking, you won't find me jumping for joy when the opportunity arises. Don't get me wrong, I love adventures and exploring, but LIVING out there....not so much.

Thank goodness one of the kids favorites character's, Sid the Science Kid can introduce them to the basics of life outdoors. The newest episode, Backyard Campout has become a quick favorite of my kiddos with the catchy songs and lessons of exploring the great outdoors and caring for the environment. They sing and dance along, and often ask to "campout" in our own backyard.  We got a chance to preview it before it's release last month, but don't worry, you can still catch it on your local PBS stations (check local listings) on July 12, July 27, an August 19 (set your DVR's!). We has a little backyard campout ourselves, complete with smore's and exploring our own backyard.

We were sent an amazing Pocket Projector, pre-loaded with the new Sid episode.
We set it up to project on to the fence in our backyard, the kids LOVED it!
I love when the kids are intrigued to dig around in the dirt and find ant's, lightening bugs, and flowers (don't tell them that they are really just pulling weeds!). We often pull in our own homeschooling stuff to make it a little educational too. I'll say "Find 4 yellow flowers, 5 purple ones, and 10 blades of grass" and they will race around, seeing who can find everything first. It's a lot of fun!

 WANNA WIN SOME GOODIES?

The Jim Henson Company and your local PBS station want to give one Mommy Instincts reader a Sid the Science Kid Prize Pack (one Sid the Science Kid outdoor blanket, a few Sid DVD's, and a surprise goodie or two from the good people who I've been working with on this. Kellogg's Eggo Real Fruit Pizza's Review and MULTI-WINNER Giveaway!

WINNERS ARE:

Congrats ladies! I will be forwarding your info on to the appropriate people so you can get your hands on your very own Eggo Real Fruit Pizza's!

Routine is kinda my thing. I am a fan of the repetitiveness of daily life. Routine keeps me motivated and energized.  I have found my son has fallen closely in line with my way of life, being the creature of habit that he is. He works well knowing what to expect next, so that is the school of thought we use when planning our days. A change from that norm can really throw off his internal clock, so I try to stick to a schedule whenever possible.

On the 2 days a week that I work (outside of the house), our mornings can be quite chaotic. Between getting 2 toddlers ready, and out the door by 8am, not to mention ready myself for a day of work, picking up from breakfast, packing a bag full of all the daily needs of the kids, and not forgetting anything or anyone along the way is a bit stressful. It has taken some trial and error and a long bit of practice to finally come up with a way to streamline my mornings.

I have found a clearly stated and visible "DAILY ROUTINE" is key for our family. This satisfies the need of a predictable schedule that can keep Jonah's busy mind at ease, without the fear of sudden changes that may make him a little anxious.  Even though he can't read, he knows that "The Schedule" is the boss, and what "The Schedule" says goes. I find this is helpful when he gets frustrated that he has to do something he doesn't want to. There is no fighting "The Schedule", and he knows that. "The Schedule" also keeps ME on task and does not allow for any of my time to be wasted by meandering on the internet or lazily collapsing on the couch for just a few more moments of rest. Lily on the other hand is so go-with-the-flow, she'll do just about anything.

Our "Daily Routine" is split into 3 parts. The imperative parts of the day (wake up, breakfast, bath time, bed time) are the same every day. But the days we will be doing "school", that leaves a little less time for play. And on our free days, we can take more time to do more exciting adventures and plan day trips and outings. The most boring days are the days I work, doesn't leave much time for play OR school, just those essential moments of maintenance for the day.

Since my mornings can be extremely rushed at times, I am always on the lookout for something that will help make it go a little a little quicker and more smoothly.

I was recently contacted by Kellogg's and The Motherhood to review the new Eggo Real Fruit Pizza's by fitting them in to my morning routine. I was delighted, since my kids LOVE fruit, I was sure these would be a hit.

The pizza's were perfectly sized to share between my two kiddo's after cutting into quarters.  The kids were a little skeptical at first, but once they figured out what they were, they seemed to enjoy a few bites of each flavor we received (the Mixed Berry Granola and the Strawberry Granola).  Lily seemed to like it a little more, but Jonah is kinda picky, and is at one of those ages where it's tough to get him to try new things.

The Eggo Real Fruit Pizza's were a cinch to make, by simply popping them in the microwave for 60 seconds. They come out warm and smelling delicious. The maple flavored crust is a chewy and soft and the fruit is covered with granola.  I do suggest checking the pizza for done-ness after the initial 60 seconds of cook time. I had to heat it a little longer, but all microwaves are different, so mine might just take a little longer.

PRO'S:
~The Eggo Real Fruit Pizza is a time-saver taking only a few minutes to go from freezer to the table
~The REAL Fruit is a nice plus, instead of artificial fruits being used
~The portion is a nice size for our family of 2 toddlers
~Come in flavors my kids like

CON'S
~I wish the crust was "crispier", would be a little easier to eat while running around. I assume though if I were to have made it in the oven, the crust would have been crispier, but it would have defeated the purpose of it being quick and easy
~Packaging wise, I wish the main ingredients were more clearly posted on the box. Obviously, the fruit is listed, but I think it would be a smart idea to add something about the "maple flavored crust", as well as whatever the "sauce" is made of

Mary Kaye "Music Box" CD (Giveaway!)

My kids are dancing fools. Started in the womb, for that I am sure. So there is no surprise that they loved the Mary Kaye : Music Box CD we were recently sent to check out.

From the second those first few notes blared from the CD player, Jonah was running (I mean....dancing) like a crazy kid. His signature moves involve running around the living room, with his hands in the air. It's pretty cute, and it is a sure fire sign that he loves what he's hearing.

Lily is pretty lucky to have such a great dancer and choreographer for an older brother, because once he starts moving, she quickly follows suit; bopping up and down and clapping her little hands.

I am fairly certain we have some musical protege's on our hands, so keep an eye out, these kid's will be big someday!

Some of the kiddos personal favorites include, the opening track, Under the Moon and Family. My song of choice has got to be the tongue-tying tunes of Tasting Tea. The upbeat voices, notes, and kids singing backup make this an awesome alternative to Barney and The Wiggles on some days. That slight glimmer of adult music shines through, making it enjoyable for the mama to jam along with as well.

I am huge on finding music for the kids that can reflect adult music, yet without all the garbage that comes along with it. I highly recommend this album for any mom ripping her hair out listening to the latest lame kid CD, this is an awesome change.

Now, you know WE enjoyed it, but YOU CAN TOO! One Mommy Instincts reader can win a copy of Music Box!

Just leave me a comment below telling me what your favorite kid' CD is! Be sure I have a way to contact you, or your entry will be tossed.
