My Turn to be Pretty ~ Part Two

*read part one here*

My day at Joseph Michael's Salon & Spa was nothing short of magical. I was greeted by Lauren, hair stylist and extension extraordinare of the salon. Since we had chatted on the phone a bit a few days back, we both kind of knew what direction we were going to go in with my hair. I needed an all-over color, desperately. I know this, because my ever-so-sweet and ever-so-observant husband said to me not too long ago "why do you have a stripe on your head?" HA! Very funny. We both knew the answer to that stupid question. So Lauren knew we had to do something about this "stripe" and I also was hoping to add a little more funkiness to my hair. And since I expressed my interest in adding a teeny bit of purple to my hair, the plan was made to add "feather hair extensions".

Jon-David and I had discussed the extensions and I of course, in being true to my nature, I researched them prior to my appointment. I found pictures like these....

Super cute right? I was unsure though. The feathers were so "visible" and "out there" and "oh know, todd is gonna kill me" (he has this crazy idea that a mom's hair should be boring....LOL). But I was gonna go for it, because when will I have another chance like this.

Luckily though, and after a sigh of relief, and a quick decision of my all-over hair color, Lauren showed me how the feather hair extension that she does works.

These extensions are real hair, not MY hair per se, but REAL hair, and not some crazy feather from a bird hanging off of my head. The extensions are attached to my own hair and with a protein bond and is actually GOOD for my hair. The colors are vibrant and bold, but with precise placement of them, they can be easily hidden, or pulled out to showcase and bring attention to them. PERFECT!

Now, before I show off my pictures and tell you how much I love and adore my super fun hair, I have to say that there is nothing like a head massage when getting your hair washed. And if it were possible, I would totally go to the salon on a daily basis, just to get my hair washed. It felt SOOOOOO good.

So here it is....my AFTER PICTURES!

Honestly, these pictures DO NOT do it justice. The extensions are hand-dyed, to look like feathers, but feathers made of hair. Because really, if you were to put a real feather in your hair, how long could it possibly last? The spine on the feather would break and you certainly couldn't wash and style your hair like normal with it in. With these feather hair extensions of mine, I am able to wash, dry, curl, and style just as if I would without them in. There is ZERO maintenance and they are super strong. I opted for green, purple, AND burgundy extensions, to give it more depth and versatility. JD even said it looked like "peacock" colors, and I couldn't agree more. I find myself always messing with them and pulling them out to the top of my hair (Lauren placed them underneath my hair so I could hide them as well) and I am always staring at them. I've gotten a million compliments on them and everyone loves them. Me included.

So, what do you think?

I love the idea of dying real hair extensions to look like feathers. Your hair looks great!

I just wanted to let you know that the real feathers are very easy to care for. I wash, dry and curl them just like my hair.

I have had my feathers in for 4 months. I went with more naturally colored feathers that accent my hair colors.

They look so great! And make me want to get extensions done too. I found your blog through Hyacynth at Undercover Mother and very much enjoy your voice and style. It's nice to "meet" you. :)
