he didn't mind

It was just like any other day.

We went to Target and he picked out a flashing red and black Mario Kart lunch box and a blue cup with skateboards on it. He proudly carried that lunchbox up to the cashier and said....

"I'm going to school today"

We drove the few minutes away to the school. He found his name and  his very own cubby. He found his hook for his coat and his backpack.

He told his new teacher about his new lunchbox.

"See? It lights up."

I go over the very important points of:

"listen to your teacher just like you'd listen to mommy"
and
"be sure you go potty if you have to go"
and
"i'll be back in just a little bit to get you"

And just like that, he was gone. Playing with the kids, and playing kitchen, like he had talked about for a week now. He didn't look back. And all I got was rushed "BYE!". He was off so fast I didn't even get a picture. ;-(  He didn't mind one bit that this was a big deal.

And it was clearly and obviously, a only a big deal to me.

My boy started preschool today.

TRUST ME...when I say...it's a GOOD thing it's only a big deal to you.

The first day I dropped Jacob off at kindergarten...he kept looking back at me while being herded along with the other children. He was crying, but kept wiping his eyes so no one would see.

Now THAT was hard. I still tear up thinking about it and that was 6 years ago.

Be glad he's comfortable. It's better knowing he's happy there than miserable.

I'm sure he'll be so excited to tell you about all of the fun things he did :)

I'm trying hard not to bawl right now, lol! That was so sweet - I'm going to school today. I would have just cried right there at the register! Jay's big day comes this fall! I hope he does as well as Jonah. He'll do camp in the summer to get him acquainted.

Yay Jonah!

Toni's right, no one wants to leave their child behind when they are sad. I can't wait to hear how his day went.

I'm anxious to hear how his day went!! It's never easy, I remember William's 1st day. I bawled outside for such a long time. How did it go?
